*SEPT 7: Sunset Solidarity Screening
Gather for a fundraiser screening of the short film ‘In Defense of the Rocket’ (dir. Martin Ginestié, 2015, 5 mins), followed by ‘Paradise Now’ (dir. Hany Abu-Assad, 2005, 90 mins). Selected by Jakhi for this screening, ‘In Defense of the Rocket’ brings together footage from more than 20 years of Palestinian political life with the ambition to uplift armed resistance and reframe the Western debate around the use of violence. Find it on Vimeo as well. ‘Paradise Now’ follows two Palestinian childhood friends as they prepare to execute an attack on Tel Aviv, ostensibly in the final hours of their lives.

SEPT 7: The Creature Ball: A Save Coney Island Benefit *Join Save Coney Island for a night of enchantment and resistance as we raise funds to stop casino developers from destroying the spirit of Coney Island. We’re working with legal experts to protect this iconic place — and we need support.

*SEPT 7: Palestinian Militant History & Culture: From Early Zionist Settlement to the Nakba
The history of the Palestinian struggle spans from the establishment of the first Zionist colony in 1878 to the present day. The goal of this workshop is to grasp this rich history and the culture it engages with and produces. As we learn about the history of the Palestinian resistance, we will discover what drove the struggle in its various phases and the ideologies that have fueled this liberatory project.

Join us for a series of fiber arts meetups in support of Palestine—Fiber Friends of Falastin! This is an exploratory social activity for folks who have basic crochet, knitting, sewing, quilting, weaving, embroidery, (and more!) skills, and who are interested in building community at the intersection of textile-making and social movements.
Please note that this is not a workshop designed to teach skills, although you may learn new skills when you come!
